PRESS RELEASE
Magny cours 13 sept 2003

The standard keeps getting better and better…

11o’clock Saturday September 13 at the Magny Cours race circuit. The race is ideally placed in the programme, right after the “warm up” of the 67th Bol d’Or. The crowd is enthusiastic and the grandstands are full. The roar of 45 two stroke engines from the 70s and 80s delights the crowd. A large blue cloud of smoke at this time also surprises a number of people. The International Classic Grand Prix race with it’s classic Grand Prix bikes always has a special effect on people, bringing back memories and nostalgia from the good old days.

Bernard FAU has joined the series at Magny Cours. He added his name to the others who were racing on Saturday, 8 times World Champion Phil Reed and all the other riders already members of the ICGP such as the founder Eric SAUL, John Weeden, William GOUGY, Etienne DALAMARRE, Tony Smith et al… all coming back to relive the great moments of the Continental Circus and the emotion of the races of that era.

Leading for two laps Bernard FAU reminded himself of the good old days. Despite some special tuning on Eric SAULs 350 Harris he was unable to maintain pole position.

The race at Magny Cours was the 5th round of the ICGP championship series, the others were Donnington (UK), Mallory Park(UK), Chimay(B) and Magny Cours(F)in July. The final race will be held in Porto Santo near Madeira for the Tourist Trophy on the island on the 1st November.

The 350 class win went to Steve BOAM who won on his 350 YAMAHA TZ, then Bernard FAU, second on the 350 HARRIS and William GOUGY on his YAMAHA 350 TZ, another famous French name on the third step of the podium. As far as the 250 class is concerned the first step of the podium went to Bruno BRIQUET on his ROTAX, Michael WILD on his ROTAX and Mike SILVESTER on his YAMAHA TZ.

The prize giving was once again held in a very friendly atmosphere, trophies and a tee shirt were awarded to every participant and a buffet enjoyed by all. Due to the constantly improving standards some of the members could not qualify, such as Michael CADOCH or Michel BARATTE but they kept smiling. Even Eduardo MARINHO who may be the slowest in the class is certainly resplendent in his new white leathers. He had to receive an award for that!!

After Magny Cours? On to Madeira and it’s sandy beach on Porto Santo. The ICGP category then will be present at the MOTO SALON in PARIS in late November to end the season and to show to all sponsors, organizers and journalists that it keeps growing.
